2020 Sussie van Freden Novice 4’s

2020 Sussie van Freden Novice 4’s

Well done Oakdale Bowling club! They had to wait 18 years to win their own unique competition!

On completion of the 18th edition of the prestigious Sussie van Freden Novice 4’s competition, hosted annually by Oakdale Bowling club, the Oakdale entry prevailed for the first time.

The team made up by Skip Helio Andrade, 3rd Marciano Andrade, 2nd Jenny Cleynhens and Lead Malcolm Miller, took victory in a pulsating final against the strong team from Goodwood.

Oakdale got off to a flyer and quickly built up a strong lead. On the 11th end they lead by 19 shots to 6. Then Goodwood started coming at them and picked up a beautiful 5 shots in the 12th end. The Oakdale shot that prevented more shots was no more than a meter away from the jack. That made the final an exciting contest.

Testimony to this is the fact that the final score was 21 shots to 14 after 15 ends! What a game!

Oakdale President, Ettiene Verster, congratulated and thanked Mowbray, who ended in 3rd place, Bellville with two teams in the final, neighbours Old Oak, Sunningdale and Kraaifontein for their participation in the final day.

Ettiene said that while the home team came out on top and they are extremely proud of that, they are grateful for the clubs that make an effort to send such splendid talent to contest annually.

He emphasised that their continued support will ensure that this highlight will remain on the calendar every year and that the entire Club is grateful for that!

Ettiene wished all fellow Clubs in Western Province a blessed 2020/21 season.
