Junior Nationals 2024

The BSA Junior Nationals ran from Friday 22 to Monday 25 March 2024, and were held in Bloemfontein.

The Junior Nationals are held in three age categories – Under-15, Under-18 and Under 25.

It is indicative of the huge growth in our Junior bowls that WP had 5 teams in Bloemfontein this year.

Under-15

The two Under-15 teams played in a single U-15 section of 14 teams. The 14 teams played a Round Robin format over 4 days, playing 4 games a day from Friday to Sunday, and one game on Monday morning.

Our A team were incredibly consistent, winning 12 of their games and drawing 1. They finished with the Gold Medal!

Our B team finished in a very creditable sixth position, winning 7, drawing 1 and losing 5 of their games. They won the Under 15 Spirit Award for their outstanding enthusiasm and love of the game!

Under-18

The Under-18 teams were divided into two sections, of 11 and 12 teams respectively. They played a Round Robin phase with 4 games a day on Friday and Saturday, and 2 games on Sunday. The top 2 teams in each section played a semi-final on Sunday afternoon, with the final taking place on Monday morning.

Our A team was very unfortunate to finish in third place in their section, narrowly missing out on a medal.
They won 6 and lost 3 of their games.

Our B team had a great tournament, gaining valuable experience, and finishing with a record of 4 wins, a draw and 4 losses.

Under-25

The Under 25 tournament was also played in two sections, of 11 and 12 teams respectively. There were 4 Round Robin games on both Friday and Saturday, with the final two Round Robin games on Sunday. Sunday afternoon saw the top two teams from each section play a semi-final, with the final taking place on Monday morning.

Our team had a tough section with the points being very close. They finished in sixth place in their section on 32 points, only 3 points behind a semi-final spot!
